Chel*ski

London's largest indoor ski training centre, brought to you by the team behind Clip N Climb and located nearby, Chel*Ski gives you all the fun of the slopes without leaving London. With no lifts, no queues and no airport security, this is skiing without the hassle. All sessions are with an instructor who looks after a maximum of three on the treadmill-like rotating slope at any one time, so you get individual feedback to improve your technique. Chel*Ski also offers ski themed parties as well as private one-to-one lessons and caters for skiers, boarders and young sliders, everyone from first timers right through to Olympic downhill racers, with separate sessions run for skiers and boarders. The best part of a ski holiday? The après ski, of course! Served with a smile at the cafe where you can relax and enjoy some traditional slope-side refreshments including hot soups and melted cheese.

Equicise

Equicise

If you like the idea of riding but you're nervous about putting your life in the hands (or should that be hooves) of a horse, this life sized mechanical thoroughbred is as close to the real thing as you'll (want to) get. For professionals as well as nervous and non-riders, the 'equine simulator' at Equicise replicates a real horse in a way that's just like the real thing - but without the risk of galloping off. The beauty of this beast is its advanced sensor system which makes the ride feel very life-like. If, for example, you want to go from trot to canter the 'horse' won't transition unless you give the right signals. Videos on the big screen, with a view over your horse's ears, help make the experience all the more realistic. As well as simulated riding lessons there are Pilates, Yoga and fitness classes in the studio next door. Plus, with the Equicise studio located at and run by Wimbledon Village Stables, once you've mastered 'faking it' you can translate your new skills to the real thing.

Urban Golf Soho

OK, so you may not be able to soak up the rays on this indoor course but it's a brilliant idea that has been stylishly executed. Dearly loved by frustrated city-dwellers, there are two Urban Golf branches in London, one in Soho, the other in Smithfield, both offer 52 of the world's best courses. Many a golf enthusiast can tee-off from the comfort of one of six high-tech simulators. Should refreshment be required, a rather attractive member of staff will thoughtfully deliver fine food and drink. Players are free to pick their programs, the holes they want to play and can match their abilities to the challenges set before them. Lessons and rather snazzy clubs are supplied if need be.
