An Evening with the Stars

The Royal Observatory's popular after dark experience An Evening with the Stars returns for two nights this November. The experience invites visitors to London's only public planetarium to look through the gigantic Great Equatorial Telescope and find out what the night sky has to offer. There will also be time to spend in the Greenwich Meridian with a hot drink, an amazing view and astronomers on hand to answer all your burning space-related questions.

 
 
 

Valentine's Day at Sanderson

Sanderson celebrates Valentine's Day across all its bars and restaurants, with special cocktails and food for the occasion. The Long Bar will be dimmed with pink lighting for the occasion, Monroe will provide live music and a Love Affair cocktail will be made up of Bombay gin, raspberry infusion, egg white and Laurent-Perrier Rose Champagne. The Purple Bar will take inspiration from Alice in Wonderland for its theme, transporting visitors into a magical world of over-sized cages, mini chairs, reflective surfaces and champagne cocktails. In The Restaurant, a special four-course dinner will be made up of dishes such as seared foie gras with crispy pancetta, a sweet love potion sorbet, roast duck breast and leg bonbon with polenta and press truffle, and tarte tatin with calvados cr√®me anglaise.

 
 
 

Orchids Festival

A stunning visual treat, this year's Orchids Festival at Kew is inspired by the vibrant colours, culture and plant life of Thailand. Thousands of orchids and tropical flowers are used to create beautiful floral displays in and around a bright Vanda tunnel and arches, Thai umbrellas, an exquisite Bang Pa-In inspired orchid palace and a special Thai cart on loan from Thailand's embassy in London. On Tuesday and Thursday evenings you can visit the display for a series of special after dark events with music and workshops.

 
 
 

Valentine's Day at Frenchie

One of central London's prettiest restaurants, Frenchie Covent Garden is the perfect setting for a romantic Valentine's Day dinner. The venue is serving a special five-course tasting menu for the occasion, lovingly created by Gregory Marchand and the Frenchie team. Guests will be welcome with a glass of champagne and some nibble on arrival before tucking to dishes such as foie gras with beetroot, smoked eel and horseradish, and scallops with broccoli and grenobloise sauce. For dessert, there's a chocolate malt lollipop with treacle ice cream. The meal is priced at £75 per person with the option of a wine pairing for an additional £50.

Pianist Warren Mailley-Smith, a favourite with Classic FM listeners, performs Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata and other classical works at this special after-dinner Valentine's concert. Enjoy a relaxed, post-dinner concert in the romantic setting of St James' Church, Piccadilly and enjoy moving music, expertly played, including Mendelssohn's Song Without Words No 1 and Liszt's Liebestraume No 3 - a piece inspired by Ferdinand Freiligrath's poem which begins 'O love so long as you can!'. The annual foot-stamping Flamenco Festival London, a fortnight long festival featuring seven shows, celebrates its 15th anniversary at Sadler's Wells in spring 2018. Highlights of this year's festival include singer Carmen Linares and rising stars Arcangel and Marina Heredia who are accompanied by the outstanding dancer Ana Morales. Maria Pages searches for the woman behind the femme fatale of Prosper Merimee's novel. Ursula Lopez, Tamara Lopez and Leonor Leal aim to break all the cliches and stereotypes of the archetypal 'Spanish woman'. Four champions of flamenco puro come together in a homage to La Chana who gives a rare performance and avant-garde choreographer and dancer Israel Galvan directs classical dancer Isabel Bayon as she reinvents herself.

The Oxo Tower Restaurant and Brasserie are both laying on special feasts this Valentine's Day, providing the chance to enjoy a romantic meal with the sparkling London skyline as a backdrop. At the restaurant, diners will be able to feast on a three-course menu with half a bottle of Moet and Chandon Rose champagne and a box of Artisan du Chocolat chocolates. Dishes include a lobster burger with spiced fries and chipotle mayonnaise, fillet steak with beef dripping chips and green peppercorn sauce, and sea bass fillet with asparagus, clams and purple potato. Radici is encouraging romance this Valentine's Day with a special three-course sharing menu. Couples are invited to feast on a menu of dishes created by Chef Patron Francesco Mazzei, beginning with a pizza to share adorned with broccoli and sausage, n'duja and mozzarella, prosciutto, anchovies, capers and olives. This is followed by a light main course of oven roasted sea bream with prosecco, artichokes and potatoes. Like the starter, dessert is designed to share with a selection of fine Italian pasticinni.
