Myrtle Chef Anna Haugh is swapping her west London restaurant, Myrtle, for Trafalgar Square on Sunday 15th March

The official London celebrations - that's the ones that don't revolve around pubs, Guinness and more pubs - are a great chance to immerse yourself in the Irish spirit (not the whiskey kind, although that also will be freely flowing to-be-sure) while enjoying the buzz and vibrancy of London in party mood.

Trafalgar Square, Central, London, WC2N 5DS

Tube: Charing Cross Station , Leicester Square Station, Embankment Underground Station, Piccadilly Circus Station

Dates: 13th - 15th March 2020

A three day citywide celebration of Irish arts, culture, food and music, St Patrick's Festival in London culminates in a colourful (mainly green) parade and a free stage show in Trafalgar Square. Women in sport is the theme of this year's festival with Dublin camogie player Laura Twomey leading the parade on Sunday. The procession of Irish marching bands, energetic dance troupes and spectacular pageantry attracts a crowd of more than 50,000 people as the parade makes its way from Hyde Park Corner via Piccadilly and Whitehall. At Trafalgar Square performers present a showcase of Irish culture and music on the main stage, compered by Derry Girls actor Siobhan McSweeney. Expect to be entertained by local groups performing Irish music, song and dance as well as special performances by Imelda May and KILA, ending with a singalong finale. Also in the square are food demonstrations from International Chef of the Year 2019, Anna Haugh, a replica Irish cottage, children's workshops featuring camogie games, medal making and face painting alongside food and drinks stalls. Events across the capital include a takeover of Camden Market, busking on the Underground, free walking tours and a three-day film festival by Irish Film London.

The Festival

The three day festival showcases Irish music, food and film.

As well as the main celebrations and the big parade in central London, additional Irish themed events take place across the capital throughout the weekend, including a takeover of Camden Market, busking on the Underground, free walking tours and a three-day film festival by Irish Film London. In Camden, the home of London Irish Centre, there's a St Patrick's Day Takeover at Camden Market on 14th March 2020. Follow the Irish music trail and discover some of Ireland's finest emerging talent, performing intimate sets at various venues and locations across the market. You can also enjoy Irish-themed pop ups with street food and quirky drinks specials. Meanwhile, at Camden's London Irish Centre, Irish folk music specialists KILA headline a special St Patrick's programme.
