The Fashion and Textile Museum explores the t-shirt in the 20th century with its new exhibition, T-Shirt: Cult - Culture - Subversion. Charting the history of the most affordable and popular item of clothing, the exhibition will highlight the multi-faceted role of the humble garment. From a simple undergarment to a symbol of rock and roll rebellion and a political statement to a luxury fashion item, it can broadcast who individuals are and who they want to be. The display will include a private collection of Vivienne Westwood t-shirts as well as an introduction to the historical biography of the t-shirt and an insight into its technological advances.
About Fashion and Textile Museum
The fashionista behind the Fashion and Textile Museum is Zandra Rhodes, the colourful designer who won the Designer of the Year award in 1972 and in 1974. Despite her flamboyant and out there designs she became a Royal Designer for Industry and was made Commander of the British Empire in 1997. More about Fashion and Textile Museum
