Whales: Beneath the surfaceWith a gigantic blue whale skeleton replacing Dippy the Dinosaur in the Natural History Museum's Hintze Hall, the museum is also hosting a new exhibition, Whales: Beneath the surface. The family event invites visitors to dive deeper into the mysterious world of the mammals with some of nature's finest whale specimens. From huge complete skeletons to the flippers, skulls and jawbones that scientists study to reveal feeding habits, breathing techniques and sense of hearing and sight, the exhibition will take you close up to the biology and behaviour of the fascinating and mysterious creature. The exhibition is the first in a series of ocean events at the Natural History Museum. The Hintze Hall will reopen in summer 2017 with the new blue whale skeleton.
