Fegus Henderson's St John stable extends from the restaurant by Smithfield to this bakery in Bermondsey. Although primarily a wholesalers, St John Bakery does open its shutters to the public on Saturdays from 9am until the loaves run out. Justin Piers Gellatly and his team of bakers offer the full range of loaves served at the St John restaurants - white and brown, light and 100% rye, raisin and soda and the sourdoughs are available as are the St John Eccles cake and the custard doughnut. The arches along Druid Street and Maltby Street are home to a number of food producers and wholesalers who all open up to the public on a Saturday, welcoming shoppers instead of traders.
